COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team closed out their spring break with a great game versus Union College, taking it down to the final out before they fell 7-6 to move to 6-3 on the season and head back to the Buckeye state.
DOWN TO THE WIRE
- Union took the early lead, scoring three runs between the second and the third innings to go up 3-0 on Capital.
- Beau Otto led off the fourth inning with a double to left field and was driven in by Bryce Grisez on a sacrifice fly of left to put the Crusaders on the board.
- The offense would keep on moving in the fifth inning, as Capital worked the bases loaded and scored three times on a fielder's choice and singles from Colle Callaghan and Otto to tie the game up at 4-4.
- The Dutchmen scored once in the seventh and the eighth to build a two run lead but the Crusaders were not done.
- Capital led off the ninth with hits from pinch hitters Drew Ellis and Bobby Godnavec put men on the corners for Callaghan who doubled to score Ellis and move within one.
- Garrott Kennedy tied the game shortly after, lining out to center which allowed Godnavec to score and tie up the game at 6-6.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Union got a man on base who came around to score on an error and win the game 7-6.
THE SCOREBOOK
- Grisez, Barnette and Callaghan all had multi-hit days, combining to drive in three runs.
- The team scattered 11 hits across the nine inning contest,
- Freshman Curtis Clark started the game, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three.

- Capital will play its first game of the season in the midwest, taking on Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 4 in Delaware.
