Women's Lacrosse Charges Past Titans to Wrap Up Chicago Adventure

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its tour of The Windy City on Friday afternoon with a win over the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans. The Crusaders defeated the host Titans, 14-5, at Tucci Stadium.

CHARGE!

  • Landry Elliott put Illinois Wesleyan ahead with the game's first goal just 51 seconds into the game. The Titans did not score again for the rest of the half.
  • Capital scored eight unanswered goals with senior Kathryn Walton kicking off the run with an unassisted goal at the 25:27 mark.
  • Sophomore Luci Kanowsky hit for the hat trick at the midway point of the first half with a trio of goals scored in a span of five minutes.
  • Walton bookended the run with her second goal of the game to give Cap an 8-1 lead heading into the locker room, but she was far from done.
  • Capital's defense limited the Titans to one goal, nine shots and 11 turnovers in the first half. Illinois Wesleyan committed 12 fouls to Capital's one in the opening 30.
  • While the Titans upped its goal count in the second half, they were still outscored 6-4 in the final 30. All five of Illinois Wesleyan's goals came from different scorers and only one Titan recorded multiple points (Maggie Torres, 2).
  • Walton again scored the first and final goals of the half as part of a five-goal, one-assist performance in the second half. Walton scored half of Cap's total number of goals and five of the team's six in the second half.
  • Capital held Illinois Wesleyan to just 13-of-19 on its clear attempts and forced 18 turnovers, 11 of those credited with a cause.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Walton turned in the sixth 10-plus point performance in CU history and her second, tying her single-game point career-high. She finished with seven goals and three assists. Her seven goals also tied her career high and she was one goal shy of tying the Capital program record.
  • Senior Brianna Rampi scored two goals and added an assist plus one caused turnover.
  • Junior Brooke Delara had a four-point game behind one goal and three assists.
  • Sophomore goalie Bee Kuehn (W, 2-2) earned the win after making 12 saves on 17 shots faced.

NEXT UP

Capital (3-2) will break for nearly two weeks before playing its next game. They will return to the field on Friday, March 13 to play Hope College at Bernlohr Stadium. The game will begin at 3 p.m.
