CHICAGO, Ill. – After the field was cleared from an earlier winter storm rolling through the area, the Crusaders and Maroons women's lacrosse teams took the field in a nonconference battle between top teams in the region. The University of Chicago used an early run to power toward a win in its season opener while Capital fell to 2-2 on the season following its 14-9 loss on a wintry Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Brooke Delara got the Crusaders on the board with the game's first goal just 1:47 into the contest, unassisted.
- Shortly after UChicago found its groove when Katie Large hit for back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead inside the five-minute mark.
- Down 3-1, Brianna Rampi worked the inside and scored off a feed from Kathryn Walton, who backed out of a free-position shot attempt to deliver the pass.
- The Maroons then rattled off five unanswered goals over a 13-minute stretch. Four different players scored during that run and fueled an 8-2 UChicago lead.
- Sophomore Luci Kanowsky scored with two seconds remaining to push the score to 8-3 heading into the half.
- UChicago scored twice out of the gate to take a 10-3 lead over the Crusaders before Dylan Smith scored the first of her two goals.
- With the score 10-4, three different UChicago players found the back of the net to grow its lead to 13-5 with 17:22 remaining.
- Capital scored five of the game's last six goals but despite the Crusaders battling to the bitter end, the Maroons held off the Crusaders in a 14-9 decision.
KEY PERFORMERS
- Capital was led by senior Briana Rampi's three goals on six shot attempts.
- Junior Brooke Delara had a three-point evening behind two goals and one assist.
- UChicago was led by Anneke Pulkkinen's four points (3 goals, 1 assist) and Katie Large's three goals.
- Bee Kuehn earned her first start but surrendered 12 goals on 20 shots against while making eight saves. Katie Parks came in with 22:23 remaining and made four saves on six shots faced.
- Freshman Emily Feigen earned her first career win after making four saves in 46:39 before giving way to Kat Berritto.

Capital (2-2) will stay in the Windy City until Friday's game at Illinois Wesleyan University (0-2). The Crusaders and Titans will meet at Tucci Stadium for a 3 p.m. first draw.
