COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team came out firing on all cylinders in the first half and though Wilmington made it a game in the second, took care of business, winning by 10 in an 86-76 decision.
IT'S RAINING POINTS
- Cameron Caldwell made a layup to open the scoring at the 19:07 mark and from that point forward the Crusaders started rolling.
- The Quakers got their second bucket at the 15:40 mark and would not score for nearly six minutes. Meanwhile contributions from Trey Meister, Ganiyu Yahaya, Griffin Doseck and others pushed the lead to 20, less than 10 minutes into the ballgame at 25-5.
- Capital continued to inflate the lead, making a 27-point deficit with a Ryan Roth three pointer with 4:18 to play in the half.
- Wilmington started to come alive and make shots toward the end of the half but did not make up much ground, going into the break down 22 at 50-28.
KEEPING IT INTERESTING
- The second half began much the same as the first, with Capital commanding the floor and putting down shots but the tide began to turn around the 17:30 spot in the half.
- The Quakers started to press the Crusaders and while committing numerous fouls, began to slice away at the lead, pulling within 11 points with 11 minutes to play.
- Another Roth three and a couple Tyler Schreck layups held Wilmington off for a little while but they continued to play hard and battled back within 10 in the closing three and a half minutes.
- However, Yahaya had something to say about that. On a feed from Bradfield, Yahaya raced down the near baseline and took off for a resounding dunk that shoved the lead back to 12.
- In the final two minutes, Capital held a commanding lead and forced the Quakers to foul, and they gladly did so, until the clock struck zero and the Crusaders picked up the all-important conference win.
