Women's Tennis Season Comes to an End Following Loss to Cardinals

By: Ryan Gasser, sports information director

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end following a 5-0 loss in the quarter-final round of the OAC Tournament. The Crusaders, seeded sixth in the tournament, took on rival third-seeded Otterbein University in Westerville but were unable to come up with the victory to continue the campaign.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play with ease. Otterbein took victories at number two and three doubles by duplicate scores of 8-1, and their win in the top-flight matchup was without surrendering a point.

Otterbein clinched the match with two singles wins at the bottom of the lineup. Freshman Julia Holt lost 6-0, 6-0 to Sophia Navas-Davis at five while junior Katie Woods was downed by Megan Stuteville, 6-0, 6-2. All matches at that point were halted with Cap leading in just one of those left unfinished.

Capital concludes its 2017-18 campaign with an overall record of 4-12, marking a step in the right direction for a program that had at one point had gone 25 conference matches without a win. It was also a season in which they accumulated the most overall wins since 2012, and graduate just one player from this year's team, Megan Williams.
