ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 9-0 loss on the road to the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Union (12-6, 5-3 OAC) took two of three doubles matches with ease. The pairing of Madison Watt and Ashlee Freeman was taken down by Gretchen Groves and Kayla Johnston, 8-1. Sierra Beighly and Trisha Kohut had similar success after an 8-2 win over Julia Holt and MacKenzie Archibald at number three doubles, 8-2.
Maria Sadek and Megan Williams gave the Purple Raiders its best match at number two doubles but ultimately fell to Jordan Teaford and Gabrielle Wegener, 8-5.
The Crusaders dropped all six singles matches on Saturday with top challenges coming from Sadek at number two and Katie Woods at number six. Both battled to 6-4 losses in their respective opening sets. Sadek was then topped by Teaford, 6-1, to clinch. Woods dropped her bout with Kohut, 6-2, in the second set.
Ashlee Freeman, Holt and Williams also competed by lost in straight sets.
Capital will prepare for its OAC Tournament appearance which begins on Tuesday, May 1. The Crusaders (4-11, 3-5 OAC) will serve as the number six seed in the tournament. Capital will go on the road for its quarter-final match against the tournament's number three seed.
