Box Score

By: Ryan Gasser, sports information director

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Capital University Men's Lacrosse used a 14-goal second quarter to help fuel its 24-3 victory at Muskingum University on Wednesday night. The Crusaders' 24 goals tied a program record for most by the team in a single game while also setting a new team record for most points in a game.

Twice before in Capital Men's Lacrosse history the Crusaders scored 24 goals in the game. Capital matched that mark against the Muskies, marking the first time the feat had been done against an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent.

Fourteen of Capital's 24 goals came from the duo of Brennan O'Callaghan (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and C.J. Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills). Each scored seven goals and posted three assists in the win. Hughes now joins O'Callaghan at the top of the program's single-game points (10) and goals (7) records.

Capital did set a new single-game team points record with 42 against the Muskies. Eighteen assists were recorded on Wednesday night, tying the team single-game record in that category. When combined with the team's 24 goals, the Crusaders surpassed the previous best (40) set on Feb. 25, 2017 against Oberlin College.

While Capital outscored Muskingum 5-1 in the first quarter, the Crusaders were able to pound out 14 goals in the second 15-minute session to take a commanding 19-1 lead into halftime.

The second half marked many firsts when freshmen Nick Brandt (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), Alex Keckler (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Tagg Toscano (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot Catholic) all scored their first career goals. Brandt went on to tally three points with two goals in the third quarter and then chipping in an assist on Andrew Orr's first career goal early in the fourth.

Capital held large advantages in ground balls (66-28), shots taken (62-14), turnovers committed (28-17), and faceoff wins (25-5). Cap was also 8-for-8 on clear attempts.

Capital (6-5, 2-2 OAC) will host the University of Mount Union at home on Saturday, April 14 at Bernlohr Stadium with the opening faceoff taking place at 1 p.m. Three of the Crusaders' next four games will be played at home.
