Box Score 2 UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team was in action Sunday afternoon against John Carroll University. The Crusaders fell in both games.
Game 1 – John Carroll 13, Capital 3
After the Blue Streaks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Capital tied the game in the top of the second. Junior Justin Ennis (Vista, Calif.) led the inning off with a single to center field. Junior Tyler Cetnarowski (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) belted a triple to right center, which allowed Ennis to score. Senior Kirby Boehm (Worthington, Ohio/ Thomas Worthington) grounded out to short stop, but recorded an RBI when Cetnarowski scored.
The Crusaders went into the top of the sixth inning trailing, 8-2.
Junior Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio/ Licking Heights) drew a walk to start the top of the sixth inning. Junior Brett Colburn (Liberty Township, Ohio/ Lakota East) reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error, Foley advanced to third on the same error. Ennis hit a sacrifice fly to center, which scored Foley. Capital cut the John Carroll lead to 8-3.
Cetnarowski and Colburn led the Crusaders with two hits each. Both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Game 2 – John Carroll 8, Capital 4
Sophomore Alexander Smith (Elk Grove, Calif.) led the top of the fourth inning off with a single. Smith advanced to second on a Cetnarowski single to right field. Smith later scored on an error by the catcher. Capital cut the John Carroll lead to 4-1 after three and a half innings of play.
In the top of the sixth inning Smith recorded a single down the left field line with one out. Ennis doubled to right field, which allowed Smith to advance to third. Smith scored when Cetnarowski grounded out to short stop. Ennis advanced to third on the ground out and then scored on a wild pitch. The Crusaders cut the Blue Streak lead to 8-3.
Boehm, in the final at bat of his career, singled to left field. Boehm recorded an RBI when Ennis scored.
Ennis finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Smith went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Boehm went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Junior Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio) and Colburn finished the season tied for first in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a .415 batting average. Bastin also finished second in the OAC with seven home runs as well as RBIs with 43.
The Crusaders finished the season 19-17 overall and 7-11 in OAC play.
