Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team was in action against Marietta College Thursday night. The Crusaders split with the Pioneers. Capital took game one of the series 17-2, led by stellar pitching performance by Brennan Borkey, but fell in game two, 9-1.
Game 1 – Capital 17, Marietta 2
Junior Brendon Borkey (Kirtland Hills, Ohio) pitched a career high seven innings. Borkey only gave up two runs, struck out one and didn't walk any batters. Sophomore Casey Hamrick (Westerville, Ohio/ Worthington Christian) and sophomore Jared Bass (Warrington, Pa.) both pitched a scoreless inning each in relief.
Marietta jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Crusaders tied the game at two in the top of the fourth. Junior Tyler Cetnarowski (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) recorded a two RBI double to left center.
Capital took a large lead in the top of the fifth after scoring seven runs. The Crusaders batted around in the fifth. Sophomore Alexander Smith (Elk Grove, Calif.) doubled which scored two of the seven runs in the fifth inning.
Capital wasn't done yet, in the top of the eighth they added five runs. In the ninth the Crusaders added three more runs. Junior Justin Ennis (Vista, Calif.) doubled down the right field line to plate two of the three runs.
Ennis and senior Kirby Boehm (Worthington, Ohio/ Thomas Worthington) both went 4-for-6 at the plate and both recorded three RBIs.
As a team, Capital finished the game with 17 runs on 23 hits. Every Crusaders' batter recorded a hit in this game.
Game 2 – Marietta 9, Capital 1
The Pioneers scored five runs in the first three innings to set the tone early in game two.
Capital got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio) homered to left field. Bastin now leads the OAC seven homeruns and leads the OAC with 43 RBIs. He is currently second in the OAC batting .438 on the season. He now has three homeruns in the last five games. He is now tied for fifth on Capital's single season homerun leader board.
Junior Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio/ Licking Heights) went 2-for-4 in game two. Foley has now recorded multi-hit games in three of the last four.
Bastin extended his hitting streak to six games, while Smith extended his hitting streak to five games.
On the day, Capital finished with 31 hits and scored 18 runs against the OAC leaders from Marietta.
Capital now sits just two games out of fourth place in the OAC. The Crusaders improved to 17-11 overall and 6-6 in the OAC. Capital returns to actions Wednesday, April 20, as they host Denison University in a single game contest. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
