Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Cougars of Ohio University-Lancaster kept things interesting in a nonconference baseball game with Capital University at Clowson Field on Tuesday afternoon, The game came down to the Crusaders' final at bat, where Logan Bastin drove in the game-winning run to give Capital a 7-6 victory.
Up by two runs heading into the top of the ninth, Capital lost its lead thanks to a two-run single by OUL's Doug Daniel. Tied going into the home half of the inning, singles by Jake Foley and Alexander Smith set the table for sophomore Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio). With infield drawn in, Bastin ripped a liner through the left side of the infield, allowing Foley to easily score from third base and end the game.
Bastin went 3-for-5 on Tuesday, including his second home run of the season which was hit over the left center field fence in the third inning. That also served as the second of four RBIs he knocked home to lead the Crusaders' offense.
Capital jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first with three straight run-scoring hits from the middle of the Crusaders lineup. By virtue of a trio of Capital errors, OU-Lancaster posted two runs in the second. With RBI hits in the fifth by Bastin and sophomore Daniel Walters (Concord, Ohio), Capital's lead enlarged to 6-2. The Cougars responded with two runs off of reliever Nick Beck, leading to the ninth-inning dramatics.
Freshman Gabe Morris (Pataskala, Ohio/Newark Catholic) earned the start, where he went five innings in a no-decision. He allowed two runs, neither earned, on five hits. He struck out five and walked only one.
Sophomore Dylan Love (Lake Worth, Fla.) earned his second win of the season, serving as the pitcher of record after ending the threat in the top of the ninth.
Eric Duncan went the distance for the Cougars, tossing an impressive eight innings before surrendering the game-winning loss in the ninth. Over 8.1 innings, he allowed seven runs and 10 hits.
Capital is now 11-6 on the season after the win. They will take on Wittenberg University on Wednesday, March 30, at 6 p.m.
