Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University Women's lacrosse team was in action Saturday afternoon against Ohio Wesleyan University. The Crusaders won, 13-11, led by Kara Hines' five goal performance.
The Battling Bishops jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just under the 28 minute mark.
Sophomore Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/ Worthington Kilbourne) tied the game on a pass from sophomore Mary Manos (Canton, Ohio). Less than a minute later, senior Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio/ Thomas Worthington) scored on a free position shot to put the Crusaders up 2-1.
Ohio Wesleyan took the lead back after two goals making the score 3-2.
Capital responded with two more goals, both by Hines. The first goal was assisted by Hoerauf and the second by sophomore Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio).
After the Battling Bishops tied the game up, the Crusaders went on a 4-0 run. Hoerauf scored the first goal on a free position shot. A little over a minute later, Hines struck again, this time on a pass from sophomore Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville South). After Capital went a man-up, Husain scored off of a free position shot, just above the eight minute mark. Thomas then scored approximately three minutes later on an unassisted goal.
After an Ohio Wesleyan goal, junior Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington North) scored off a pass from Manos to expend the Crusader lead back to four goals.
Capital took a 9-5 lead into the half.
Three minutes after the Battling Bishops scored, Titus added an unassisted goal.
After Ohio Wesleyan scored a goal a man-down, Titus answered with a free position shot goal. Just over two minutes later, Husain added an unassisted goal.
After two goals from the Battling Bishops that cut the Crusaders lead to three goals, Hines struck again on an unassisted goal.
Despite two late goals by Ohio Wesleyan, Capital was able to hold on for the victory.
Hines finished with a game-high five goals, a game-high five draw controls and three ground balls. Hines has scored at least four goals in all of the first five games this season. Titus finished with three
goals and two ground balls. Manos led the way with two assists, added two ground balls and a draw control.
As a team, the Crusaders outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 32-25. Capital caused 23 turnovers which led to 11 failed clear attempts. The Crusaders had the advantage with 10 more draw controls than the Battling Bishops.
Capital improves to 5-0 on the season. The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium, as they battle Kenyon College.
