Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Capital University baseball team was in action Saturday for a pair of games, one against Franklin College and one against Adrian College. The Crusaders defeated Franklin, but fell to Adrian.
Game 1 – Capital 8, Franklin 4
Capital jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio) started a two-out rally with a single. The next batter, junior Tyler Gibbons (Liberty Township, Ohio/ Lakota East), reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, advancing Bastin to third. Senior Tyler Cetnarowski (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), recorded an RBI single that scored Bastin.
Junior Shane Wellman (Moundsville, W. Va.) didn't surrender a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning. In the first four innings, Wellman struck out six batters and added two more in the fifth.
The Crusaders struck again in the top of the fifth inning. Junior Brett Colburn (Liberty Township, Ohio/ Lakota East) started the inning off with a double. After a fly out to center field and a ground out to second base, Cetnarowski singled, which scored Colburn. Cetnarowski then stole second. After a Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio/ Licking Heights) walk to load the bases, the Grizzlies' pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed Cetnarowski to score and the other runners to advance one base. Senior Kirby Boehm (Worthington, Ohio/ Thomas Worthington) recorded an RBI double that scored Foley. Capital extended its lead to 4-0.
Franklin answered with three in the bottom of the fifth inning and one more in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.
Capital responded with one run in the top of the seventh inning. Boehm singled to allow Cetnarowski to score. In the eighth inning, Cetnarowski recorded an RBI single that scored Zachary Ary (London, Ohio), who pinch ran for Gibbons. The Crusaders added two more runs in the ninth to extend the lead, 8-4.
Sophomore Dylan Love (Lake Worth, Fla.) recorded his first career win. Love pitched three innings in relief. He struck out five batters and scattered two hits.
Game 2 – Capital 5, Adrian 13
Adrian jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring one run in the first and three in the second.
Capital responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman Joe Caporale (Mayfield, Ohio) singled allowing Connor Hopkins (Highland Heights, Ohio) and Daniel Walters (Concord, Ohio) to score.
The Crusaders added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Boehm singled to right field and Cetnarowski scored on an error by the right fielder.
The Bulldogs exploded for a six run seventh and added another run in the eighth inning to extend its lead to 10-3.
Capital added a run in the eighth. Ary scored on an RBI single by Walters. The Crusaders added another run in the ninth, when Caporale scored on a Colburn single.
