Men's Lacrosse Crushes Bethany College

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ten different Crusaders notched at least one goal in the Capital University men's lacrosse team's big win over Bethany College (W.Va.), Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders earned their second win of the season, trouncing the Bison, 24-3.

Capital (2-1) immediately bounced out to a 4-0 lead before 10 minutes had run off the clock. They took an 8-0 advantage into the second quarter. Sophomore Brennan O'Callaghan (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) recorded a hat trick with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter and then added his fourth of the frame on a man-up opportunity. Junior Brent Walton (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) assisted on two of O'Callaghan's goals, and added one of his own with under one minute to go in the frame.

The Crusaders continued to score at-will, posting 20 unanswered goals before the Bison recorded their tally. Capital scored five more times before the end of the half and then an addition seven in the third quarter.

A slew of firsts came as a result of the one-sided affair. Recording their first career goals were freshmen Ryan Rampi (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), Grant Gullia (Canfield, Ohio), and sophomore Ryan Wireman (Willowick, Ohio). Rampi scored four goals as part of his career day, and added two ground balls. Gullia and Wireman each scored one.

Sophomore Ted Crites (Waukee, Iowa) now has five goals on the season after posted three more in Saturday's win. He also has as many ground balls after gathering three against the Bison. Junior Danny Davide (Massilon, Ohio) and sophomore Dylan Bishop (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) led the Crusaders in ground balls, each picking up five. Bishop added to his stat line with four caused turnovers, also a game-high. Capital ended the day with 69 ground balls to Bethany's 28.

Capital goaltenders had quiet days after the defense allowed just one shot in the entire first half and outshot Bethany 45-1 in that time. Sophomore Cole Palmby earned the win, but both T.J. Johnson and Ryan Chamberlain each saw time in net, as well.

The Purple and White will play its next two contests on the road against Oberlin College and at The College of Wooster, both schools out of the North Coast Athletic Conference. Last year, Capital earned a signature win over Oberlin, but has not yet played Wooster. Capital and Oberlin will play Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
