Crusaders Downed by Big Red

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat in their road trip to Denison University, Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Crusaders to 1-1 on the fall season.

Capital's lone point came from senior Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) who beat out Jackson O'Gorman-Bean by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Buchanan is now 2-0 in singles play this season.

Denison (1-0) took victories in all three doubles bouts to get off to a good start and then rolled through singles flights two through six. Sophomore C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) challenged Jack O'Koniewski but fell by a 6-3, 6-4 count in the No. 2 singles match. Out of the No. 5 spot, Junior Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) fell by a similar margin to Blake Burstein (6-4, 6-3).

Capital will play one final dual match on Sept. 19 at home versus Adrian College before parting for St. Louis, Mo. to participate in the fall ITA Championship.
