Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team spread the wealth across the entire roster in its 22-3 victory over Wilmington College. Regan Hanood set a new record for assists in a game while the Crusaders closed in on other program highs while earning their first conference win of the season.
The Crusaders (7-2, 1-1 OAC) burst out with 14 first-half goals, falling just one short of tying a school record for goals in a half. The current record stands at 15 goals set against Wilmington last year. Capital had already scored 14 goals in a half this year, doing so at home in a win against Franklin College (Ind.) on March 7.
While freshman Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) led the Crusaders in scoring with seven goals, freshman Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/North) possessed the most points by collecting nine on two goals and a school record seven assists. Four of a Hanood's seven assists came in the first half, while Hines scored four times before the end of the half.
Hines also led the Crusaders and tied her own school record with 10 draw controls. She broke the record, previously eight held by Shannon Walton, against Franklin.
After Jenni Caporale tied the game at one goal apiece 3:26 into the game, Capital kicked it into gear and scored 14 consecutive goals. That streak spanned nearly 11 minutes into the second half before Rachel Routzong scored a goal while the Quakers possessed a man-advantage situation.
Capital, which possesses the top defense in the nation by goals-against average, held advantages in ground balls (26-19), draw controls (18-9), and turnovers (16-14) while causing 11 turnovers.
Hanood also led the Crusaders with five ground balls with freshman Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/South) and junior Julie Duren (Union, Ohio) following closely behind with four, each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), who possesses the number one goals-against average in the nation (4.71), made five saves and allowed just three goals.
Freshman Taylor Thomas (Canton, Ohio) set new career highs by scoring five goals and collecting seven points on the day. She went 2-for-2 on her free-position shots to help keep Capital perfect on four attempts.
Sophomore Andrea Lowe (Galena, Ohio) scored her first collegiate point, assisting on Capital's final goal that was scored by Korri Titus. The goal was one of Titus' three goals in the match.
Capital has now won four of its last five matches and has six wins while scoring 15 or more goals in a game. They will host Muskingum University on Saturday, April 11 at Bernlohr Stadium in their next match.
