Crusaders Advance to Semis, Shutout Polar Bears

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A strong start paved the way to a solid finish in the Capital University Men's Tennis team's 5-0 shutout victory over Ohio Northern University, Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders will now meet in Mason, Ohio to match up against rival Otterbein University on Friday, May 1 for the semi-final round.

Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales) and Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) got back on track in the top-flight doubles match by defeating John Mostowy and Alex Starr, 8-5. The pairings of Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) and C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby), and Beau Streety (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) cruised to victories in their respective doubles match to give Capital an early 3-0 lead.

Play halted after Martin and Judson breezed by in their singles matches. Out of the number five spot, Martin defeated Alex Genbauffe (6-2, 6-0) and Judson defeated Andy Starr in the number six position, 6-1, 6-0. Those wins clinched the match to advance Capital deeper into the tournament.

No. 3 Capital (14-4) will now play No. 2 Otterbein (11-10) in the OAC Tournament Semifinals, which will be hosted at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Crusaders and Cardinals will face off at 1 p.m. for the right to play in the championship match on Saturday morning.
