LIMA, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team claimed a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship, finishing the season with a 7-1 conference ledger after defeating Ohio Northern University, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Capital is one of three teams in the OAC that finish the season with a 7-1 record. While Capital shares the regular season title with Otterbein University and John Carroll University, it earned the third seed in the upcoming OAC Men's Tennis Tournament based on the final tiebreaker of points won among the three teams.
As the No. 3 seed, Capital will play host to the Polar Bears in a rematch in the first round of the OAC Tournament. They will play at the CU Tennis Courts, Tuesday, April 28, at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday's match between Capital and ONU was relocated to the Westwood Tennis Fitness Center in Lima, Ohio.
The Crusaders ruled the indoor courts with an 8-1 win, dropping its only match at No. 1 doubles. The pairings of Kenny Duncan and C.J. Martin, and Beau Streety and Jared Judson brought in Capital's first match points in the second and third flights by scores of 8-5 and 8-1, respectively.
Capital took all six singles flights and all but one in straight sets. The lone exception was Luke Buchanan's marathon match that went to a super tiebreaker, which he won 10-8. He defeated John Mostowy 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
With wins by Streety and Martin, they both have now won four straight singles bouts.
