Crusaders Overcome Early Deficit to Defeat Yellow Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team won its third straight match to keep pace with the top teams in the conference with its 6-3 victory over Baldwin Wallace University on Friday afternoon. Capital fell behind early after doubles play, but the singles lineup won 5-of-6 matches to propel them to their third straight win.

Down 2-1 after doubles play, Baldwin Wallace also added a victory in the top-flight singles match when Peter Harris defeated Luke Buchanan 6-1, 6-4. From that point on, it was all Capital.

While the number two and number five matches went three sets, senior Kenny Duncan and sophomore Beau Streety cruised to 6-1, 6-4 victories over their respective opponents.

Junior Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) continued his strong play out the number-six spot, defeating Brian Carano 6-4, 6-0. Judson has now won three straight singles matches and also served as one half of the duo that pulled down Capital's doubles win, marking his fifth straight victory as Streety's partner on the courts.

Sophomore Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) and freshman C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) both went the distance to pull down Capital's final team points. Booher fell behind to Doug Ganim after dropping the first set 6-4, but rallied for 6-1 and 6-4 wins in the second a third sets. Martin took the first set against Kevin Fredrick, 6-3, but had to battle from a 6-4 loss in the second set. He did so with ease, putting down Fredrick, 6-1, to claim the win. Martin has now won three straight singles matches, as have Duncan and Booher.

Capital is now in sole possession of second place in the most recent Ohio Athletic Conference. They are just one-half game behind Otterbein University (10-10, 7-1 OAC) with one match to play. They are set to travel to Ohio Northern University to play the Polar Bears (6-9, 3-4 OAC) on Saturday. Should Capital win, they would share the regular-season championship with Otterbein and then serve as the top seed in the upcoming tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker.
