SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team came up short against the Wittenberg University Tigers at Carleton Davidson Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Capital (12-18) was unable to score runs once it got runners on base, leaving 11 stranded.

Wittenberg (7-19) connected on nine hits, three of which resulted in a trio of runs in the third stanza. Josh Kaplan and Zac Wilson got on base with a pair of single before sophomore pitcher Dalton Boucher blasted a homer to right field to score the first runs of the game.

Capital's lone run of the day came by way of Austin Underwood, after he entered the game to pinch hit for Matthew Carnahan (Moundsville, W. Va.). The senior scored Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio) from third with a single to second base.

Wittenberg first baseman Timmy Bates led all fielders with 13 putouts. Kirby Boehm (Worthington, Ohio) and Carnahan paced the Crusaders with five.

Senior pitcher Derek Colston (Port Clinton, Ohio) split time with Shane Wellman (Moundsville, W. Va.) as he received his second loss of the season after allowing all three runs scored by Wittenberg.

The Tigers used three different pitchers but it was junior Jordan Hitt who earned the win with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Crusaders will travel to Ada, Ohio for a doubleheader against Ohio Northern on Saturday, April 25.
