SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team engaged in two matches on Saturday afternoon, one of which a nonconference match. The Crusaders earned one win on the day, that in their first match against Wittenberg University. They ended the day with a loss to John Carroll University, who hosted the day's events at the Hathaway Brown Courts.
MATCH 1 – CAPITAL 6, WITTENBERG 2
Capital earned its fourth win of the season by defeating the Wittenberg Tigers, 6-2.
The Crusaders ran the table in the number two through number five positions in the singles lineup, leading them to victory. Between Corinne Hohenstein, Jennie Schott and Caitlyn McDivitt the trio surrendered just one point total among their matches.
Senior Alyssa Tryer (Venetia, Pa.) defeated Meghan Depew by a 6-4, 6-0 count in the No. 2 spot to give Capital its fourth individual win.
The combo of Ashlin Gable and McDivitt also brought home a point from doubles play after their 8-1 win over Kaelee Tobin and Trista Davis.
MATCH 2 – CAPITAL 1, JOHN CAROLL 8
John Carroll held a 2-1 advantage after double play and then rolled with wins in all six singles flights. Capital's lone win of the match came from the doubles pairing of Gable and McDivitt, who defeated Catherine Engel and Jennifer Stroyne, 8-5.
Capital (4-8, 2-5 OAC) will round out the regular season at home with a 3:30 p.m. match against Ohio Northern University at the CU Tennis Courts.
