COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite an early advantage, the Capital University men's tennis team suffered its first loss in nearly a month. John Carroll University defeated the Crusaders, 6-3, at the CU Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Capital (9-4, 3-1 OAC), the last unbeaten team in OAC play, dropped five of six singles matches en route to its first loss against a conference opponent. They had been riding a five-match win streak until the loss.
The tandems of C.J. Martin and Kenny Duncan, and Beau Streety and Jared Judson defeated their respective opponents in doubles play. Martin and Duncan downed the duo of Scott Adsit and Dillon O'Brien, 8-6, while Streety and Judson turned down Alex Guthrie and Nick Sicilliano, 8-4.
Capital's lone singles win came from Judson. His second win of the day came against O'Brien, 6-4, 6-3.
Martin put up a good fight, taking Guthrie three sets before dropping the final frame, 7-5 (6-1, 4-6).
Capital now joins Otterbein University (5-1), Baldwin Wallace University (4-1) and John Carroll (4-1) on the list of teams with one loss in OAC play. They still have four OAC matches left to play, beginning with a home match against Baldwin Wallace on Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m. They will wrap up the home slate against Marietta College on Monday, April 20 before taking to the road against Heidelberg University (April 22) and Ohio Northern (April 25).
