Women's Tennis Falls to Pioneers, 8-1

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat in a road match with Marietta College.

Marietta overran Capital in singles play, taking all six individual matches to run away with the team win. While the Pioneers took all six wins, three of those were earned in three-set victories. Senior Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) was elevated into the No. 1 spot and took the first set against Carey Becker, 6-3. After dropping the second set, 6-1, Becker outlasted Trier, 6-4, for the win.

Junior Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) put up a great battle with a 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 8-10 loss in the third flight to Natalie Turner. Freshman Caitlyn McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio) was defeated in three sets by Kelsey Jeffrey 3-6, 6-0, 5-10.

Capital's lone point came from its No. 2 doubles win by McDivitt and Schott. The duo defeated Lauren Bush and Alex Seals with a 9-8 (7-3) victory.

The Crusaders (2-7, 1-4 OAC) have lost four of its last five matches heading into its next home match on Friday, April 17 against Heidelberg University. The match will be held at the Capital University Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
