Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University's softball team showcased its versatility, completing a two-game sweep of the Mount Union University Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders put together a solid hitting effort early on in game one before exploding for seven runs in the final two innings to finish off the Raiders. In game two, it was the defense that held strong as the Crusaders held Mount Union scoreless until the final inning.

Game 1 vs. Mount Union W, 11-3

The Crusaders (18-7, 9-1 OAC) held a close 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, until Alyssa Patznick (Newark, Ohio) stepped to the plate and unloaded a homer to center field with two teammates on base to allow the Crusaders to take complete control of the game, extending their lead to 8-3. The home run was the second of the senior pitcher's career.

Capital added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 11-3 victory.

Kelsey Swain (Pickerington, Ohio) and Brooklyn Staten (Grove City, Ohio) led both sides with three runs apiece. LeAnna Cotton (Okeechobee, Fla.) continues to hold a large lead in RBIs for Capital, adding four more.

The Crusaders put the game out of reach with three runs in the fifth inning. Cotton began the scoring with a sacrifice RBI, allowing Brooke Billings (Clyde, Ohio) to cross the plate for the score.

Two at bats later, Bailey Walter (Ashland, Ohio) hit an RBI single to score Staten from second. Patznick concluded the scoring with an RBI of her own.

The Crusaders notched 21 putouts with senior catcher Maura Rose (Williamsport, Pa.) pacing all fielders with six. First baseman Marisa Koss (Ostrander, Ohio) contributed five.
