Crusaders Win Big on Record-Setting Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University men's lacrosse team put up some big numbers on its way to setting a new school record, 24 goals against Franciscan University on Wednesday afternoon.

After scoring just three goals in the first quarter, Capital (7-2) took complete control in the second. Sophomore midfielder Jeff Simmons (Lewis Center, Ohio) got the second quarter started with his second goal of the game to put the Crusaders up 4-0.  The Crusaders added six more goals before Franciscan (0-8) got on the board for the first time with 3:56 left in the half. Capital took a commanding 11-1 lead into the break.

Midfielder Paul Modzelewski quickly scored Franciscan's second goal after winning the opening half faceoff. Capital answered with 11 goals in the third quarter before cruising in the fourth quarter on its way to a 24-4 victory.

The Crusaders made it difficult for the Barons, forcing them into 18 turnovers. Franciscan was held to just 16 total shots while Capital fired off 70. Capital also held a 50-19 advantage in ground balls and converted on 16 of its 18 clear attempts.

Ted Crites (Waukee, Iowa) had a career day, setting career highs in shots (11), shots on goal (7), points (6), goals (5), and ground balls (4).

Brennan O'Callaghan (West Chester, Ohio) registered 17 shots and had 10 of Capital's 46 shots on goal, five of them found the net.

The Crusaders will begin conference play against Mount Union (3-4) at Bernlohr Stadium on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m.
