BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team opened up the spring season with a few new players on its roster, but fell to Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Crusaders, 8-1.
Baldwin Wallace improved to 2-9 (1-0 OAC) with the win while Capital falls to 1-4 overall (0-1 OAC) on the season.
The Yellow Jackets swept through doubles play, earning wins in all three flights. Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) and new addition Caitlyn McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio) put up the toughest test, but fell 9-7 to BW's Mackenzi Baker and Claire Watts.
In her first match as a member of the team, McDivitt also earned the Crusaders' only point with a win in the No. 5 slot of the singles lineup. The freshman defeated Hayley Peterson 6-3, 6-2 to get Capital on the board.
Baldwin Wallace earned wins in all five other singles flights en route to the 8-1 victory.
Capital will host rival Otterbein University in its next action on Saturday, March 28. First service is set for 1 p.m.
