Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak out of the gate to three matches after running away with a 16-3 win against Alma College (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Crusaders' fast-paced offense struck quickly with four goals in the first four minutes of play, forcing Alma (1-4) to take a timeout. After the Scots scored their first goal shortly after the timeout, Capital immediately responded with three unanswered goals, including two inside a one-minute span. Capital went on to score six out of the next seven in the half.
More impressive than the number of total goals scored in the first half (10) was the fact that six different Crusaders combined to account for the team's offensive success. Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/North), Kara Hines (Columbus, Worthington Kilbourne) and Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio/North) each scored twice in the opening half while Miranda Stellini (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), Marlee McCloud (Milford, Ohio), Shannon Walton (Fairview Park, Ohio), and Taylor Thomas (Canton, Ohio) also scored to help the Crusaders build a 10-2 lead heading into halftime.
Thomas' goal was the first of her collegiate career, and her first points as a Crusader.
The offense did not let up as freshman Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/South) scored within the first minute of the second half on a free-position shot attempt. Capital scored the first four goals in the second half to extend its unanswered goal streak to seven. Three of their four goals to open the second frame were off of free-position opportunities.
While the offense was busy scoring in bunches, Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) kept the net relatively clean by making seven saves on 10 opportunities, including multiple close-range shots taken inside the eight-meter marker.
Titus led the team with six caused turnovers while Walton added four of her own. Capital induced a total of 24 Alma turnovers.
Hines led the Crusaders with four goals on eight shot attempts and added two ground balls and two draw controls. The freshman now has 13 goals in her first three collegiate matches.
Hanood went 3-for-3 on shot attempts, scoring each time she launched the ball toward the cage. She also had one assist.
Stellini shared the team lead for points with Hines after posted two goals and two assists over the course of the game. She also put forth three ground balls on the defensive front.
The Crusaders will head to Gambier, Ohio to play its most formidable opponent of the season, thus far, Kenyon College (4-0). The Ladies come off of a 20-10 victory over Otterbein University on Saturday. The match will being at 4:30 p.m. from Mavec Field.
