Lords Spoil Season Opener, Down Crusaders 11-2

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team was taken down by Kenyon College in its season opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Lords defeated the Crusaders, 11-2, at McBride Field.


Kenyon (1-0) went up 3-0 after the first quarter with goals by two goals by Robert Jacobs and another J.T. Meyer. The tag team of Jacobs and Meyer struck again in the second quarter, each tossing in one more goal each to up the advantage to 5-0 heading into the half. Two of Jacobs' three goals were scored man-up, and he would add a third later in the match.

The Lords scored the match's first eight goals before Capital (0-1) got on the board. Sophomore Nick Hess (Horseheads, N.Y.) scored the Crusaders' first goal of the year with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter, but Kenyon responded with two more before quarter's end.

Sophomore Jeff Simmons (Lewis Center, Ohio) scored Capital's other goal, that coming with five minutes remaining in the game.

Freshman Cole Palmby (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy) received his first collegiate start as Capital's goaltender where he made six saves.

Capital will open its home schedule this Saturday, Feb. 28, against Mount St. Joseph University with the first draw taking place at 1 p.m.
