AUBURNDALE, Fla.  – One big inning made the difference in Capital University Baseball's 7-2 victory over Cleary University on Tuesday, February 24. Timely hits helped the Crusaders capitalize on some costly Cougar errors while the pitching staff did a job on Cleary's bats.

Sophomores Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio) and Justin Ennis (Vista, Calif.) led the top of the Capital batting order with two hits apiece while Brett Colburn (Liberty Township, Ohio) went 3-for-5 at the plate to help turnover the lineup card. All three were part of a big four-run sixth inning that separated the Crusaders from the Cougars in Capital's second win of the year. Colburn hit an RBI single and later scored on one of two Cleary errors in the inning. After Foley reached on an error by the shortstop, Ennis and Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio) each put up two-out, run-scoring base knocks. Capital exited the inning with a 5-2 lead after entering the frame down by one run.

Four consecutive one-out singles from the five through eight hitters helped Capital (2-3) generate two more insurance runs to help out its pitching staff, though little was needed.

Senior Derek Colston (Port Clinton, Ohio) earned his first win of the season after going five inning and allowing just two hits while striking out four Cougar hitters. He was responsible for both Cleary runs, but both were unearned.

Freshmen Dominic Field (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Brendon Borkey (Kirtland Hills, Ohio) cleaned up the final four innings and collectively allowed just one hit while sitting down two hitters via strikeout.

The Crusaders will continue their spring break tour against on Thursday against Houghton College at Lake Myrtle Park with a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
