Streety Clinches Third Straight Win for Crusaders

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Capital University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to start its season to three matches with a 5-4 victory over Grove City College (Pa.) on Monday afternoon. Beau Streety claimed the last team point to break a tie and clinch the win for the Crusaders.

With the match tied at four points each, Streety faced off against Matt Lynch and rolled with relative ease. With 6-3 and 6-2 set wins, Streety claimed the final point that tipped that scale in Capital's favor, for good.

The win extends the Crusaders' current win streak to three matches to start the 2014 season. Dating back to last season, Capital has now won 11 of its last 12 matches, including an eight-match winning streak that lasted the entire month of April.

Streety was also a part of the No. 3 doubles team that gave Capital the edge heading into singles play. Streety and Jesse Faulkner defeated the combination of Jon Fleet and Lynch in a nail biter, 9-7. Kenny Duncan and Benny Balizar accounted for the second doubles point in the second flight of doubles play.

Capital (3-0) and Grove City (0-2) split the six singles matches with the Crusaders taking wins in the second, third, and decisive fifth flight. Balizar grabbed a win in the No. 3 singles match, breezing past Dan Schafhauser, 6-3, 6-1. Dale Booher stayed undefeated in singles play this year, winning after Colby Beighey retired in the second set (6-4, 3-0, retired).

The Crusaders have one last match this fall set for Friday, Oct. 3 at Franciscan University. It will serve as Franciscan's first match of the season.
