Women's Tennis suffers 9-0 Defeat by Trine

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In their match of the year, the Capital University women's tennis team had a rough outing against Trine University (Ind.). The Crusaders fell, 9-0, to drop to 0-2 on the season.

The Thunder downed the No. 1 doubles tandem of Ashlin Gable and Julia Lucas, 8-3. Capital nearly made up that point when the No. 2 doubles team, comprised of Alyssa Trier and Jennie Schott made a match of it with the Thunder's Marissa German and Miranda Synesael. However, German and Synesael broke away for an 8-6 victory to put the visitors up by two points.

Trine completed the sweep in doubles play by turning down Corinne Hohenstein and Taylor Jenkins, 8-1.

Singles play fared no better for the Crusaders, though Gable nearly got them started on the right foot. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Gable came back and outlasted Erin Kwaske, 7-6. In the super tiebreaker, Kwaske earned the winner to claim the point for Trine.

In flights two through six, Trine took all the day's matches by sizable margins to complete the shut out.

Capital (0-2) now begins a four-match road streak that will take them through the duration of the fall season. They will play Grove City College (Pa.) on Monday, Sept. 22 in their next action. First service is set for 3:30 p.m.
