The Capital University women's tennis team closed the 2014 regular season Saturday with a 9-0 setback at Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match in Ada, Ohio.
The Crusaders (1-11 overall, 1-7 OAC) will be the No. 8 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and visit regular season champion and top-seeded Otterbein Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Westerville for a quarterfinal match.
The Polar Bears (15-4, 7-1), who are ranked No. 17 in the region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won all three doubles matches and didn't surrender a set in singles play.
Junior Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) and sophomore Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) were downed 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) and sophomore Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) were defeated by an identical score at the second position. Junior Diana Lolli (Grandview Heights, Ohio) and sophomore Kelsey Niese (Shelby, Ohio) suffered an 8-0 loss at No. 3.
Trier, Hohenstein and Schott each took a game in the second set at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Lolli posted a strong showing at No. 6 in a 6-3, 6-1 setback.
Gable (No. 2) and Niese (No. 5) were each knocked off 6-0, 6-0 at their respective slots.
