COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's tennis team picked up wins in both singles and doubles play Thursday but was knocked off 6-3 against Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match at the Capital Tennis Courts.
The Crusaders dropped to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in OAC play with the loss, while the Pioneers improved to 6-12 and 2-5, respectively.
Junior Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) was involved in both singles and doubles victories to lead Capital. Trier teamed with sophomore Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 triumph. Following the conclusion of doubles competition, Trier quickly posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top singles position.
Junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) also picked up a singles win, downing Marietta's Natalie Turner 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot.
Hohenstein and sophomore Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) nearly forced a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, but were outlasted 9-7 by Carey Becker and Mollee Brown.
Capital wraps up regular season play Saturday at Ohio Northern. First serve in Ada is set for 1 p.m.
