Capital Downed by Ohio Wesleyan

 

COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's tennis team concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday with a 9-0 setback against Ohio Wesleyan at the Capital Tennis Courts.

 

The Crusaders dropped to 1-9 overall with the loss, while the Battling Bishops improved to 6-13 with the victory.

 

Ohio Wesleyan took the three doubles matches to start the match. Junior Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) and sophomore Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) posted a strong performance at the No. 1 spot, but were defeated 8-6.

 

In singles play, junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) nearly won the first set but eventually fell by a 7-5, 6-1 decision at the third position. Junior Diana Lolli (Grandview Heights, Ohio) was also in contention for a victory, but came up short, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 6 slot.

 

Gable won the first set of her match at No. 2, but was outlasted 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-4) in the final completed match of the afternoon.

 

Capital resumes Ohio Athletic Conference play Thursday at home against Marietta. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
