COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the 2014 season Wednesday, sweeping Muskingum 9-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match at the Capital Tennis Courts.
The Crusaders (1-5 overall, 1-2 OAC) won all three doubles matches and took all six singles contests, including five in straight sets.
The Muskies fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference with the loss.
Junior Diana Lolli (Grandview Heights, Ohio) and sophomore Kelsey Niese (Shelby, Ohio) got Capital off to a good start with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. Junior Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) and sophomore Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) followed with an 8-4 win at the first position before junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) and sophomore Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) sealed the team's doubles sweep with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2.
Niese didn't surrender a game at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Lolli clinched the match for the Crusaders with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the sixth slot.
Schott recorded a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 4, followed by Hohenstein, who earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Gable recovered from a second-set setback to win 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) at the second position. Trier finished the team's sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles flight.
Capital resumes conference play Tuesday at Heidelberg. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Tiffin.
