Capital Posts Another OAC Win

 

The Capital University men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive dual match Tuesday, defeating Marietta 8-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest at the Marietta Tennis Center.

 

The Crusaders (8-6 overall, 5-2 OAC) won all three doubles matches before taking five of six in singles play against the Pioneers (3-11, 1-6).

 

With the victory, Capital remains in a tie for third place in the league standings with Ohio Northern. The two teams face off on April 26 in Columbus.

 

Sophomore Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) and freshman Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) registered an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 pair of sophomore Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and freshman Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) combined for an 8-1 win, while junior Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) and sophomore Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) tallied an identical score at the second position.

 

Streety won for the 10th consecutive time and improved to 15-3 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 5 slot. Walter also won in straight sets, defeating Tanner Sigman 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth spot.

 

Duncan was a straight-set winner at No. 3, downing Karl Grant 6-2, 6-4. Judson swept Chase Leisure in a pro-set, 8-0, at the No. 6 spot to improve to 12-3 on the year.

 

Booher overcame a first-set loss by tiebreaker to outlast Teddy Daub 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-1 at the second singles position.

 

Following the Easter break, the Crusaders play their final non-conference match of the regular season at Cedarville on Wednesday, April 23, at 3:30 p.m.
