The Capital University women's tennis team pushed two singles matches to three sets Saturday but was unable to take a match in a 9-0 setback at Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match in Alliance, Ohio.
The Crusaders fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in OAC play with the loss. The Purple Raiders improved to 10-1 and 4-1, respectively.
Sophomore Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) won the first set in her match against Hannah Arvidson at No. 2 singles, but fell in a super tiebreaker in the third set to drop a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) decision.
Sophomore Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) also took her first set at the fourth singles position, but was ultimately defeated 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) by Taylor Dowling.
Junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) competed in a pair of close sets, but was narrowly beaten 7-5, 6-4 by Lauren Olivier at No. 3 singles.
Capital continues conference play tomorrow at noon against John Carroll. The match is part of a men's-women's doubleheader at the Capital Tennis Courts.
