The Capital University women's tennis team showed grit and determination Thursday in an 8-1 setback against Augustana (Ill.) in a dual match-up in Puerto Rico as part of the team's spring break trip.
The Crusaders fell to 0-3 overall with the loss, while the Vikings, who entered the week ranked No. 16 in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), improved to 12-0 for the season.
Juniors Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) and Rebecca Hunt (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined to give Capital its lone point in the match. The No. 3 doubles duo knocked off Madeline Voss and Lauren Kaczmarek 9-8 (8-6) of Augustana.
Sophomore Kelsey Niese (Shelby, Ohio) won the first set of her singles match at the No. 6 slot against Kelsey Kammerzelt, but eventually was outlasted 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-2.
The Crusaders return to action on March 21, as the team visits Trine (Ind.) for a 4 p.m. contest.
