Crusaders Continue OAC Hot Streak With Dual Win

The Capital University men's tennis team remained unbeaten in the Ohio Athletic Conference Saturday with a 9-0 triumph at Marietta on Saturday.

 

The Crusaders (9-3 overall, 4-0 OAC) dropped just one set for the day and recorded their third conference victory by sweep. The Pioneers dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the league with the loss.

 

Capital began the day with three doubles victories. Freshmen Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) teamed up for an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior John Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and sophomore Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) combined for an 8-3 win at the second position.

 

Freshmen Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) and Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) recorded their seventh triumph of the season at No. 3 doubles by an 8-5 margin.

 

In singles play, Walter and DiMichelangelo each registered their team-leading 10th victory of the season. Walter bested Andy Knauff 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, while DiMichelangelo took care of Karl Grant 6-3, 6-2 at the fifth spot.

 

Murray, Duncan and Judson all posted their eighth singles wins of the year. Murray recovered from a first-set setback to defeat Alex Schaeffer 5-7, 7-6 (1), 1-0 (10-5) at No. 2. Duncan (No. 3) and Judson (No. 6) each tallied straight-set victories.

 

Buchanan rounded out singles results with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 triumph at the No. 1 spot.

 

The Crusaders host defending league champion Baldwin Wallace, which is also undefeated in OAC play in 2013, this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
