The Capital University women's tennis team saw its 2012-13 season come to a close Tuesday with a 5-0 setback at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal at John Carroll.
The fifth-seeded Crusaders (7-12 overall) recorded the program's highest overall win total in the last seven years. Capital's highest recent win total came in 2008, when the team finished 6-8 (records prior to 2007 are incomplete). The team's four conference wins matched its recent high, also in 2008.
The Blue Streaks (9-9), who are the tournament's No. 4 seed, won all three doubles matches and, with two singles victories, clinched the match win. John Carroll moves on to face the winner of No. 8 Muskingum at No. 1 Ohio Northern, which takes place tomorrow.
The Crusaders are set to return all but one student-athlete from this year's roster for 2013-14. Senior Collyn Weaver (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) competed in the final match of her career, pairing with freshman Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) at No. 2 doubles. The pair was defeated 8-2 in the match.
Sophomore Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) finished as the team's leader in singles wins with seven, followed closely by sophomores Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Ohio) and Rebecca Hunt (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had five apiece. Schott led Capital in doubles wins with five, while five others posted four.
