The Capital University women's tennis team exceeded its Ohio Athletic Conference win total from last season just midway through the league season Saturday with a 9-0 victory at Muskingum.
The Crusaders (6-7 overall, 3-1 OAC) claimed all three doubles matches before taking all six singles contests in straight sets.
The No. 1 doubles pair of freshmen Ashlin Gable (Bluffton, Ohio) and Julia Lucas (Erie, Pa.) posted an 8-4 triumph over Lindsay Mullen and Rebecca Keeley of the Muskies (0-6, 0-5). Freshman Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) combined with sophomore Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) for an 8-6 win at second doubles. Senior Collyn Weaver (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) paired with sophomore Rebecca Hunt (Cincinnati, Ohio) for an 8-2 triumph in the third spot.
Gable (No. 1), Lucas (No. 2), Schott (No. 4) and Trier (No. 5) all were victorious at their respective singles positions in straight sets. Junior Elisabeth McLaughlin (Granville, Ohio) added a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 3, while sophomore Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Capital resumes play this Wednesday at home against Mount Union. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Crusaders will tally a fourth conference win Friday after the league announced last week that Wilmington will forfeit the remainder of its dual matches this season.
