The Capital University men's tennis team fell just short of a dual match victory over a cross-town rival Saturday, suffering a 5-4 defeat at Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference match at Delaware, Ohio.

The Crusaders (1-1 overall) took one of three doubles matches before splitting the six singles matches. Capital was edged in three sets in a pair of the singles contests.

Senior John Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill.; at right) and sophomore Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) won the lone doubles match for the Crusaders. The No. 2 pair defeated Blake Brewer and Brad Turnwald of the Battling Bishops (1-1) by an 8-3 margin.

In singles, freshmen Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio), Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) and Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) were all victorious. Walter scored a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Conor Breen at No. 4 doubles, while DiMichelangelo recovered from a first-set defeat to knock off Turnwald 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) at the fifth doubles slot. Judson beat Austin Okray in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

Duncan and Murray each bowed out in three sets at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Freshman Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) was downed in straight sets at the No. 1 spot.

The Crusaders continue play on Feb. 25-26 in Kissimmee, Fla., for their annual spring break trip.
