The Capital University women's basketball team concluded play at the two-day Julie Costello Memorial Classic on Saturday with a 58-55 defeat against 14th-ranked Thomas More in a non-conference affair at Crestview Hills, Ky.

Seniors Stacy Timmerman (New Bremen, Ohio) and Rebekah Will (Millbury, Ohio) led the way with 11 points apiece for Capital (3-2 overall), which held a 48-35 advantage in rebounds but shot just 32.8 percent from the floor, including a 28.6-percent mark in the first half. Junior guard Cookie Geroski (Fostoria, Ohio) chipped in with six points, a team-high nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Saints (4-1) also finished with 19-of-27 shooting from the free throw line compared to 9-of-15 for the Crusaders.

Following the conclusion of the game, Will and junior forward Jamie Caton (Hilliard, Ohio) were selected to the All-Tournament team. Caton tallied a game-high 19 points in Capital's 72-54 victory over Centre (Ky.) on Friday.

On Saturday, the Crusaders led through the first 10-plus minutes of the first half and led by one at the break thanks to 12 offensive rebounds and seven second-chance points.

The two teams went back and forth to start the second period before a 9-2 run, capped by a Caton free throw to give Capital a 43-36 advantage with 11:03 to play. Thomas More responded with a 15-0 run to take an eight-point lead with 6:41 on the clock.

The Crusaders took the lead again after a lay-up by freshman guard Simonne Gage (Dayton, Ohio) made it 54-53 with just under two minutes remaining. After a Saints free throw tied the contest for the ninth time, Geroski knocked in a free throw to put Capital back ahead by one.

Thomas More took the lead for good on the ensuing possession with a 3-pointer at the 40-second mark. The Crusaders had three chances to tie or take the lead but were unable to do so.

Capital resumes non-league play this Wednesday against Ohio Wesleyan. Tip-off at the Capital Center is slated for 5:30 p.m., and the game is the first half of a women's-men's doubleheader against the Bishops.
