COLUMBUS, Ohio - On Tuesday morning, Capital University Director of Athletics
Dr. Darrell Bailey Sr. made the announcement of Maddie Wentz as the new Head Volleyball Coach. Wentz, a native of Broadview Heights, brings a notable amount of both coaching and playing experience to Capital, most recently serving as an Assistant Coach at Ohio Dominican University.
"We are happy to welcome Madison Wentz as our Head Women's Volleyball Coach," stated Dr. Bailey. "Madison brings a vision centered on team unity, a growth mindset, competitiveness, and a commitment to our student-athletes' success both on and off the court."
"I'm so excited to be back in the OAC and to lead the Capital volleyball program," said Wentz. "This is an incredible opportunity, and I'm ready to pour everything I have into building a culture of growth, competitiveness, and pride."
Wentz is no stranger to the Columbus area, spending the last two years on the coaching staff at Ohio Dominican as a Graduate Assistant. During her time there, she helped lead the Panthers to a record of 16-15 in her first year, to a finish of 26-6 in her second. She also helped guide the team to both their first conference title and NCAA Tournament Appearance in program history. She coached and developed three All-Conference Team selections and two All-Region selections in her final season with ODU.
In July of 2025, Wentz spent time working as a Camp Volleyball Coach for the University of Florida, where she collaborated with the Florida coaching staff and helped run small-group and positional training sessions across multiple skill levels and age groups.
Wentz was a four year member of the volleyball team at the University of Mount Union, where she graduated in 2024 with a degree in Exercise Science. During her time with the Purple Raiders, she earned Academic All-OAC honors three years in a row and was named a team captain in her senior season.
In addition to her volleyball background, Wentz is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, spending time as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the collegiate, club, and high school levels.
Wentz currently resides in Columbus, where she is coaching club volleyball with the Greater Columbus Volleyball Club 15s National Team. She is also currently working to complete her Master of Science from Ohio Dominican, currently on track to graduate in May of this year.
