COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team celebrated Senior Day as they concluded their 2025 season on Saturday afternoon in The Capital Center. The team battled strong against a tough Mount Union team and eventually fell in a five-set match 3-2. The sets went in 25-13, 18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-12 in favor of Mount.
Capital concludes their season with a record of 3-22 and a mark of 1-7 in the OAC, while Mount Union moves to 11-16 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
SENIOR DAY
Prior to the match, Capital celebrated their seven seniors in the form of
Simone Daniel,
Makenna Sullivan,
Kenadee Winters,
Reagan Irons,
Ryann Bunyak,
Abby Brunner and
Samaree Perkins.
THE MATCH
Capital held advantages in several categories but a slight edge in offensive efficiency from the Purple Raiders and an advantage in aces pointed to a spread in the match. Capital did come out on top in digs (101-96), kills (57-55), and assists (53-51).
Offensively,
Ryann Bunyak finished the match with a game-high and a career-high tying 18 kills.
Samaree Perkins also ended in double-digit kills with 11, while
Chloe Preocanin added 10 kills.
Olivia Milton chipped in eight as well.
Carlee Thompson led the offense with 39 assists, while
Abby Brunner set up six.
At the service line, Preocanin ended with the only two Comet aces of the match.
In the back row, Brunner ended with a game-high 39 digs. She was joined in double-digit digs by Winters (13), Thompson (13), and
Reagan Irons (11). Irons' 11 digs marked her first career double-digit dig outing.
At the net, Capital was led by Perkins who had three solo blocks. Milton ended with one solo and two block assists. Milton combined with
Abby Reed and Bunyak on her assisted blocks.
MILESTONES
Abby Brunner finished her career with 1,912 digs. That number sets her fourth all-time in program history, trailing only Jackie Helm (2,023), Marie Zumberger (1,986) and Holly Johnson (1,955). She also finished her career with 142 aces, sitting just seven aces outside of the top-five in program history.
Samaree Perkins finishes her career with 419 kills and 153 blocks.
Ryann Bunyak landed 360 kills in her career.
Carlee Thompson eclipsed the 500-assist mark in today's match, recording 538 this season and in her career at Cap.
