Golf Opens Up Spring Season at Thaw Out Invite

HARRODSBURG, Ky. - Both the Capital women's and men's golf teams opened up their spring season this past weekend, participating in the Thaw Out Invite, a 36 hole event hosted by Otterbein University at the Bright Leaf Golf Course and Resort.  Along with Capital and Otterbein, also competing was Muskingum University in both the women's and men's tournament.  The women would come in third place with a score of +152.  The men would come in second with a score of 12 over.

WOMEN
The women would finish with scores of +68 and +84 to finish with a total of 728 (+152).

Leading the women's team would be Emma Konopa, who recorded rounds of 81 (+9) and 87 (+15) to finish at 24 over.  The junior would finish in eighth place.

Finishing just one spot behind was Camryn Mauter and Paige Leyda, both finishing at 32 over, which was good for a tie in ninth.

MEN
The men would fire off rounds of +3 and +9 for a team score of 588 (+12), placing them in second place.

Leading the Comets with a phenomenal performance was Keegan Billingham, as he finished with scores of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3) for a final score of 139 (-5).  After 36 holes of play, the junior found himself in a three way tie for first place.  After three intense playoff holes, Billingham would ultimately come up just short.  His total score of 139 was good enough to place himself in solo possession of the second best 36 hole score in program history.  Currently holding the record is Shane Murphy, who finished with a score of 138 at the 2021 Gatorade Collegiate.

Capital's Andreas Reider competed in the event as an individual, using scores of 70 (-2) and 73 (+1) to finish in a tie for eighth place.
