MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University men's and women's golf teams traveled to the Marietta Pioneer Classic played at Marietta Country Club this weekend to open the competitive portion of their spring season. There, the Capital men placed fourth, while the women finished sixth. Both teams battled tough chilly weather conditions and a delayed second day due to frost on the course.
WOMEN
The Comet women finished sixth of eight teams in the event, shooting a two-day score of 785 (391-394). Denison University won the event for the women.
Capital was paced by
Emma Konopa who placed tied for 18th. She shot 180 for the two rounds, making up scores of identical rounds of 90.
Hannah Combs placed 24th for the Comets with rounds of 98 and 100 to score 198 over the two days.
Camryn Mauter finished 28th overall with a two-round score of 201 (96-105).
Reese King rounded out the Comets' scoring by placing 30th with a score of 206 (107-99).
MEN
The Comet men placed fourth overall in a field of seven teams by scoring a two-day score of 623 (311-312). Washington & Jefferson won the event for the men.
Logan Wycoff paced Capital with a T-7th finish, combining to score 151 (76-75).
Keegan Billingham was next for Capital with a tied for 11th finish, scoring a two-day score of 153. His two rounds scored 77 and 76.
Ryan Murphy placed tied for 18th in the field, scoring rounds of 78 and 79 to total up to 157.
Ricky Walsh was the next golfer for Capital, placing tied for 27th. He scored rounds of 80 and 82 to total 162.
Cam Donahue rounded out the performance, carding rounds of 83 and 85 to combine for 165 over the two days.
UP NEXT
Both the men and the women will be in action next on Sunday, March 30th and Monday, March 31st as they take part in the Muskingum Spring Invitational to be held at Eaglesticks Golf Course in Zanesville, Ohio.
