Capital Bowling Rounds Out First Half of Season in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Capital University men's and women's bowling program sent their varsity squads to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in two separate tournaments across four days this past weekend. The trip opened with the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational before the Collegiate Shootout Invitational. Both events took place at the South Point Bowling Plaza. 

Below is a summary of the performances from the two events. 

GLENN CARLSON
MEN
As a team, the Capital men placed 52nd in the first event, tallying a team score of 7,093 over eight games. 

Leading the way for Cap was Baylee Becker who rolled a score of 1,505 with a high game of 214. 

Zac Abbott was next for the Comets who bowled a score of 1,445 over eight games with his high coming in at 204. 

Robert Stegman bowled 1,229 in his seven games, with a high of 229. 

CalebKornosky also bowled seven games, totaling 1,213 with a high of 226. 

Jonathan Waggoner was next for the Comets, tallying 1,180 in his seven games. His high was a 221. 

Jacob Snyder bowled three games, totaling 521 with a high of 192. 

WOMEN
The Capital women placed in a notable 27th place out of 42 teams in the event. The team's total score across eight games registered at 6,752. Three Comets even bowled their way to top-100 finishes. The team's opening game combined score of 945 also marked a new program record for single game team score. 

Jolene Powers led the team by finishing in 55th place, thanks to a score of 1,466. Her high game marked 211. 

Cassidi Johnson was next for the Comets, placing in 77th with a score of 1,390. Her high score registered 214. 

Olivia Hicks rounded out the top-three with an 86th place finish and a score of 1,378. Her high game marked 200. 

Kaitlyn Sturgell was next with a score of 1,334. Her high game registered 215. 

Alyssa Gehring was next for the Comets with a score of 897 over six games. Her high score marked 183. 

Sadie Bassitt bowled two games of 135 and 152 to score 287. 

COLLEGIATE SHOOTOUT
MEN
Capital placed 28th out of 61 teams, scoring a total score of 8,229 after 5 individual games and 16 baker games. 

Zac Abbott led the way, placing 18th out of 519 bowlers. He scored 1,116 with a high game of 268. 

Baylee Becker was next with a score of 962, highlighted by his high game of 245. 

Caleb Kornosky was next, bowling a combined 945, thanks to a high score of 216. 

Jonathan Waggoner was next, bowling a 797 over four games. His high registered 231.

Jacob Snyder bowled a 727 in his four games, with a high of 210. 

Robert Stegman bowled two games with scores of 199 and 169. 

The men highlighted the baker portion of the event with a new school record baker game of 299. This is the second time this season the Comets set a new record for high baker game after they previously bowled a 279 earlier this year. 

As a team, the Comets averaged over 200 across their tournament, marking the first time the team has done so not bowling at their home facility of HP Lanes. 

WOMEN
The Comet women placed 35th with a total score of 6,593 after their five individual games and 16 baker games. 

Jolene Powers led the team with her second straight top-60 showing, as she placed 60th of 248 bowlers. She totaled a score of 899 with a high game of 207. 

Cassidi Johnson was next, scoring a total of 785 in the five-game series. Her high game marked 190. 

Olivia Hicks scored a total of 778, with a high of 184. 

Kaitlyn Sturgell was next for the Comets with a total score of 587 in four games. Her high registered 191. 

Sadie Bassitt bowled three games, totaling 442 with a high of 166. 

Alyssa Gehring also bowled three games with a total of 382 and a high of 130. 

Notably in the baker games for the women, the group bowled a 782 over their last four games to improve their team standings. 

UP NEXT
Capital will now break for the holidays and New Year before returning to action on January 10th at the AHBA #4 in Waterford, Michigan.
