Two Comets Earn All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On Tuesday, Dec. 2 the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-Region teams were released by the United Soccer Coaches.  Two Comets would be recognized, as sophomore midfielder Taylor Duff was named second team all-region while freshman defender Elise Buckerfield received fourth team honors.

Taylor Duff has received well deserved recognition for her stellar sophomore year performance.  Along with this All-Region nomination, she was also named Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) first team and Co-Midfielder of the Year.  Duff appeared and started in all 18 games for the Comets this fall, thriving in role as an orchestrator on both sides of the ball.  She would play a pivotal role in the eight defensive shutouts that occurred, along with tallying two goals and an assist to complete her season.  Taylor has been shining off the pitch as well, recently being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.  She has also qualified to advance to the national ballot to potentially receive Academic All-American honors, which will be released on Dec. 17.

Elise Buckerfield was just one of four freshmen that were recognized in the Region VII award release.  Buckerfield is the first Capital freshman to be named to an All-Region team since Becca Cartmill in 2013.  She also was named in OAC awards, earning first team and Freshman of the Year honors.  The freshman appeared and started in all 18 games, leading the strong back line for the Comets this past season.  Elise would play a large role in the eight defensive shutouts, also adding one assist to her season statline.
