Women's Soccer Falls to No. 11 Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For a Sunday showdown, Capital University's women's soccer team traveled to Cleveland to take on No. 11 Case Western Reserve University.

The Comets fell 3-1 to the Spartans after 90 minutes, dropping to 1-1-0 on the season. Case Western Reserve improved to 3-0-0.

The game remained scoreless through the first half before the Spartans quickly broke through in the second. Sonora Hale scored in the 46th minute to give Case Western Reserve a 1-0 lead.

Capital responded in the 55th minute when Elise Buckerfield scored her first goal of the season to even the match at 1-1. Four minutes later, the Spartans regained the lead on a successful penalty kick by Ashley Liang, making it 2-1.

Case Western Reserve added an insurance goal in the 84th minute to secure the 3-1 victory.

The Comets recorded seven shots, with four on goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Hinshaw played all 90 minutes and made five saves.

Capital will hit the road for three consecutive games, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, against Trine University in Angola, Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
