Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team (1-3-3) took a trip south down I-71 on Wednesday night to square off with Mount St. Joseph (0-6-0). The Purple and White would finally notch their first win in the era of new head coach
Corey Kirk as the Comets scored six and shutout the Lions, 6-0.
It was all first-time scorers for CU as
Landon Montgomery (2) and
Luka Stojcev (2) both netted braces, with
Noah Baer (1) and
Jacob Reppeto (1) picking up the other pair of goals.
Devon Hess had a pair of assists with
Jacob Deever dropping a dime as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cap got on top early and would not stop there, scoring four in the first half alone.
Noah Baer got the party started in the seventh minute, assisted by
Jacob Deever. Just over ten minutes later, the Comets found the back of the net again with
Landon Montgomery putting it away off of an assist from
Devon Hess in the 17th. Hess struck again with another assist in the 37th minute, this time setting up
Luka Stojcev. Finally, in the 44th, it was
Jacob Reppeto's turn to get it in the net, unassisted.
Things slowed down slightly in the second half, but not enough to keep CU from scoring two more. Montgomery grabbed another in the 52nd minute, followed by Stojcev with his second about 15 minutes later in the 68th on a PK. When the dust settled, Capital had put up six goals and held MSJ scoreless, a lopsided 6-0 final.
THE NUMBERS
It was all offense for the Comets fired away 24 shots with a .541 on-goal percentage while holding their opponents to just seven shots, four of which found their mark but were kept out by Capital's keepers.
It was all first-time scorers for CU as
Landon Montgomery,
Luka Stojcev,
Jacob Reppeto and
Noah Baer found the back of the net for the first time in their careers. Montgomery and Stojcev scored two apiece with Reppato and Baer bagging one each.
Devon Hess had two assists, his second and third of the season.
Jacob Deever also had an assist, his second of the season.
Ethan Ogden (1-2-2) got his first win of the year, playing 63 minutes and making four saves. He secured a combined clean sheet with
Noah Thomas who made his debut in the second half.
